Halo 3 is (obviously) the third and final (doubt it) game in the extremely popular Halo trilogy, and as such, it had a lot to live up to. The question is; did it live up to the expectations? Well…Yes..but it didn’t really surpass them either. It’s more or less the same as the other 2 games with a few new additions and better graphics.
Gameplay-wise, not much has changed from the previous installments. It’s still the same, staight-forward “shoot the alien bad guys” gameplay from before…Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but a little more originality is always welcome at the house of yams. The big innovation, however, is that the game records anything and everything you do, whether it’s a triumphant victory or a humiliating defeat, and allows you to replay them, rewind, fast-forward, pause or any of that fancy stuff. Its a nice addition to the game but when it comes right down to it it really doesn’t add much to the actual gameplay.
Multi-player is, as always, where Halo shines. Chances are you’ll play the campaign mode for a while, get bored (with all those plot holes and whatnot) and go straight to xbox live. Some glitches are still present (why is it when I pistol whip the back of this guy’s head I’m the one who dies?!) but it’s a small price to pay for how much fun it is to frantically take your enemies’ flag back to your base while bullets fly over head. The aforementioned camera is also most fun when reviewing your past online matches.
Graphic-wise Halo 3 is easily the best looking Halo game, all of Master Chief’s armor looks smooth N’ shiny, the people look more realistic, grass blows in the wind, all that jazz. The music is high quality as well, even if most of it is recycled from before.
So all in all Halo 3 is a very fun game, but its basically Halo 2 on xbox 360. So if you like Halos 1 and 2, then you will like Halo 3, but if Halo isn’t your cup of tea, may I suggest Gears of War?
Master Chief is still a stupid name…..
