I was a little worried to see Kung Fu Panda at first. It seemed like an interesting concept, but it could have very well been another generic CGI movie with fart jokes abound. After seeing it however, I think it is the best Dreamworks animated film in years.
The movie is very, very funny. I can’t really think of any jokes that didn’t end up being humorous. Jack Black is a comedic genius as Po…The big, fat panda, and is probably the most hysterical animated character in a good while.
The action is surprisingly awesome. I was expecting this movie to be more of a parody on martial arts films, but they really took the fight scenes seriously. The action sequences are very entertaining and fun to watch, they are all fast-paced and pretty lengthy. I would even say they are some of the best fight scenes in recent memory.
The animation is very well done and has a unique look to it. They did a great job with the character designs and environment, it kind of looked like those old Chinese paintings, only with computer generated talking animals. I especially like the hand-drawn opening scene, which starts off the movie with a lot of the aforementioned humor and action.
As I said earlier, Jack Black is brilliant in this movie, as are his costars such as Dustin Hoffman, although some of them aren’t in of the movie as much as they should be (Jackie Chan in particular stands out, given the nature of the movie). Angelina Jolie has a decent amount of lines, but even she doesn’t have too many.
This is a very entertaining movie that I would recommend to anyone. Great story, great humor, great action, its all wrapped up in one awesome package. It may not be Pixar quality, but it’s still awesome!
Skadoosh!
