Team Fortress 2

Valve's Orange Box
Team Fortress 2 is a class based multiplayer first person shooter and one of the five games included in The Orange Box, and even though it’s probably not the best game of the bunch, it’s the one I come back to play the most.

The best part about this game is the balance and variety between the Nine different classes.

The scout is the fastest of the bunch and is the best choice for going after the flag in capture the flag maps.

The soldier is used to cause as much destruction and chaos as possible by firing missles about the place.

The pyro is the best choice for charging into the enemy base and getting as many opponents out of the way via flamethrower.

The demoman uses different explosives to get any inconvenientses out of the way.

The heavy weapons guy is a human tank whos sole purpose is to take as many hits as possible and clear opponents out of the way whilst your allies make their way to the objective. Goes great with a medic.

The engineer will spend his time building turrets, teleporters and ally healing despensors to add defence to the team.

The medic is really self-explanitory, heal your allies and give them brief invulnerablity.

The sniper is also self-explanitory, get your opponents out of the way from a distance.

The spy is used to disguise as an enemy and take out the opposing team from the inside (and get rid of those aforementioned turrets).

Even though I said the classes are balanced, two of the classes will take alot of getting used to: the soldier and the spy. The soldier often times just seems to be based on luck, as you can accidentilly kill yourself along with your foe and often times rely on random “critical rockets” to take out an enemy. The spy will probably take even longer to get used to, since your whole cover can be blown by one simple shot, and people are constantly “spy checking” so chances are you will probably get killed halfway to your objective.

Another downside is that every level is restricted to a single objective (with one exception). If you want to play a certain game type, you are limited to a select few levels. It’s not a very big complaint, but it would be nice to choose the level as well as the game type.

The visuals of the game are a very pleasant, refreshing change from the usual first person shooter. Instead of a generic “lets try to make the people look as realistic as possible” look, it goes in a more “Looney Toons” visual style that gives it a fresh, cartoony feel to it.

Theres not much to say about the music though, as the only real music that plays is on the title screen, the rest is dead scilent. The characters each have their own unique voices which can be pretty humorous.

The game itself is really fun to play. Playing each class’ strengths to ensure your team is victorious is fun and very well done.

Spy sappin’ my sentry!

I like this game, but I’m absolutely horrible at it. I followed you around that one time and did a half-way decent job of healing your fat guy though. We should play again sometime.
