Remember that 2003 Hulk movie? Yeah I try to forget too. Thankfully The Incredible Hulk is a really good movie, and infinitely better than that Ang Lee disaster.

The movie is not a sequel to 2003’s Hulk, but a reboot to help redeem the franchise from that horrible mess. It tells most of the Hulk’s back story through flashbacks and dialogue, so we don’t have to sit through another “this is how he became the Hulk” story, and it works out really well. This way the movie focuses on telling the story now, instead of just reminding everyone what they already know.

Another great thing about this movie is that the Hulk is actually in it! In the 2003 film it took Bruce Banner 45 minutes before we got a brief glimpse of the Hulk’s shadow. This time around we don’t have too long to wait for the Hulk to show up, and we get to see plenty more of the Hulk later on.

The action is very exciting, from the Hulk fighting the military to the showdown with Abomination at the end, its all very fun to watch and feels very powerful (as the Hulk should). You won’t find any of that weird, vague and ostentatious “comic book panels in clouds” fights with absorbing dad this time around. Seriously, that stuff was as blurred and unclear as footage of  Big Foot or a U.F.O. Thank heavens The Incredible Hulk knows that Hulk fights should include a lot of smashing.

The movie also has a few references to other Marvel heroes, fans will probably be happy to see Tony Stark make an appearance as well as a conversation referencing Captain America. That Avengers movie better be darned good if they are building it up with every movie they release so long ahead of time.

All in all I found this to be an pretty good super hero movie. I have high hopes for the sequel and hope the next Marvel movie ends up being this good.
