Spiderman 2 is fantastic! It took everything that made Spiderman a great comic book movie, and made it all the better. Its one of the rare sequels that outdoes the original in every way, and it is one of the best super hero movies ever made.
Spidey 2 already has the bonus of not having to explain the “super hero origin” story and can focus more on the characters and action sequences. Most sequels still manage to fail to give good character development even with no origin story to worry about, but Spiderman 2 takes advantage of it and produces non stop entertainment.
The story revolves around Peter Parker’s choice to keep doning the spidey suit, sacrificing his personal life for an ungrateful public, or to just be Peter Parker. Everything about the story comes together perfectly and we get to see a depth to Peter Parker/Spiderman that is almost unheard of in super hero films.
Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is classic. He goes from being the kind hearted scientist Dr. Otto Octavius to a remorseful villain, as opposed to an all out monster. It really makes him a powerful, and likable villain. You want to cheer him on as much as you want to cheer for Spiderman. Not to mention how awesome those metal arms are.
The action is brought up several levels from Spiderman 1. Who doesn’t remember the iconic scene of a maskless Spiderman stopping a runaway train from falling to a certain doom. Every action scene has a sense of epicness to it.
The humor is also at its best in this installment. From obnoxious ushers, pizza heists and, of course, James Jameson, we have plenty of good humor without resorting to the idiocy that Spidey 3 stooped to.
If you have not seen Spiderman 2 than you are missing out on one of the truly great super hero movies. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes quality entertainment. Why couldn’t Spiderman 3 be even a fourth as good as this.

I always thought the guy who says, “He stole that guy’s pizza!” sounds like Dave Chappell.

The Batman Begins review will be a little bit late due to my viewings of The Dark Knight. I will have both Batmans reviewed in the next few days. Sorry.
