In Defense of Left 4 Dead 2

It seems that those video game “fans” just never want to stop whining and complaining. Back at E3 Valve announced its newest game, the sequel to Left 4 Dead, one of the most original first-person shooters I’ve ever played as well as one of the best multi-player games in years. But rather then being happy about the announcement, these so called “fans” once again see things in a negative light and choose to once again run their seemingly never closed mouths about how wrong Valve is and how right they are about Left 4 Dead 2. I have decided to give my opinion on the matter for which I am referring.

I have to ask…Why? Why do video game “fans” feel the constant urge to complain over anything that comes their way? No matter how good a game may be (in the case of Left 4 Dead, fantastic!), as soon as they hear a sequel is coming out later this year they immediately  begin firing their complaint cannons (don’t ask, I just thought of that as I was writing) about how “Valve is rushing the sequel too soon, it will hurt the community of the current Left 4 Dead!”

But does it really have to hurt the current community? Why not play both games? They spend so much time complaining on Internet forums they could easily use that time to play both games.

And besides, we only know the most basic information about the game, for all we know it could be an even better game then the original. I mean, we are talking about Valve here. They make First-person shooters like Nintendo makes platformers and adventure games, they are simply the best at what they do. Their resume speaks for itself! Why is the video game community so ready to not give something a chance, even when the developers clearly know what they are doing and are darned good at it (they made Half-Life people)!

People are even already complaining that the lineup of characters aren’t as good as the four from the original Left 4 Dead. Granted, they may not seem like the same delightfully stereotypical zombie movie characters, but they may turn out to be just as likable all the same. The heavy set character kind of reminds me of Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which makes me laugh. That’s already a good reaction right there. I actually want to like these new characters and so far so good. People should at least give them a chance for Gandalf’s sake!

The fact that these people go so far as to make “boycott LFD2″ groups is also downright annoying.  So they are just going to not play a sequel to a game they claim to like? They’re not even going to give it a chance? I can understand if someone were to think that maybe the sequel might not be as good as the original, because that’s always a possibility. But to just plain refuse to play the game because “it’s coming out too soon after the original” is just so ignorant on so many levels. These people are impossible to please.

I have absolutely no idea when video game “fans” became a community of whiners and complainers, but there seems to be no end to their annoying ways. Valve makes great games, some of which are hailed amongst the best of all time. They are amongst the best in the business and they are the masters of a genre. Valve is going to make whatever game they want, and these “fans” are going to end up playing it anyway, and it will sell millions of copies. These “fans” know this, but they choose to whine anyway. Why?  I guess they get some false sense of self confidence  because they can say whatever they want on these forums and whatnot without any consequence. I guess they feel “powerful” by always talking about how right they are and how wrong the developers are. Maybe they think they are being controversial and being controversial somehow makes them cool. More then likely, it’s all of the above as well as several other stupid reasons that these people feel the need to complain about every facet of the medium they claim to like.

It’s really just plain ridiculous that people try to boycott a game as soon as it’s announced. Especially given the fact that they claim to be “fans” of the original game. There are plenty of people that still play old PC and NES games (self included), even with all the mounds of sequels out there. So why should a sequel “ruin” the current Left 4 Dead community? It shouldn’t.  If anything, the only thing ruining the Left 4 Dead community are the fans. Apparently because the sequel is coming out a mere year after the original means the sequel doesn’t deserve a community of its own and deserves to be boycotted. *sigh* These people…

In conclusion, Valve is making the game, no matter what these whiners say, and they’re all going to end up playing it anyway.

What in the heck is wrong with these haters? If you really like something, wouldn’t you really like to have more of it? Anyway, Left 4 Dead 2 takes place in New Orleans… There’s no cooler place than New Orleans. Zombies in New Orleans… sounds like a party to me!!!
