I recently discovered something that may be oozing of the awesomeness in a hopefully not too distant future. The original Super Mario Kart, the Super Nintendo classic that revolutionized multi-player gaming and properly introduced the world of Mario and friends to a non-platforming genre, was just released on the Japanese Virtual Console on June 9th, so there’s a good possibility that we may be seeing Super Mario Kart of the North American Virtual Console very soon.
And on a similar note, the original N64 Super Smash Bros. was just released on the European Virtual Console on June 12th! It had already been released on the Japanese Virtual Console back in January, so this may be even closer than Mario Kart!
This comes as good news for me, since (besides Majora’s Mask) I haven’t really noticed very many high-profile classics on the Virtual Console as of late. Let’s hope they get released sooner than later, and that their presence may inspire more classics to be re-released on the Virtual Console soon. Awesomeness indeed.
