Ten Great Video Game Music Themes II

Back in January I made a little post titled “Ten Great Video Game Music Themes” and said that I hoped to make it a recurring “segment” on my blog. I of course intended to add another such post soon after but got a bit caught up in other things. But now I have finally gotten around to writing another such post for your reading enjoyment.

Once again, keep in mind that this isn’t a top ten list. It is merely my acknowledgment of ten great pieces of video game music. I will list them in chronological order.

The same rules apply as last time.

  • Only one theme per any particular game on any one list. So even if a game has a soundtrack consisting of a wide array of awesome music, I can only pick one at a time, and I’ll have to wait at least until the next list to pick another.
  • To avoid any one franchise from dominating the list, the number of games representing each franchise will be limited to one or two games per list.
  • Music must originally be from the game. I made something of an exception last time with Tetris’ classic “Type A” theme. But that’s Tetris so it can do as it wants.

And as I promised last time, I was sure to throw a couple of more obscure themes into the list this time around.

So without further ramblings: Ten Great Video Game Music Themes II!

Elecman’s Theme is great, like everything from the Mega Man series.

“Forest + Maze = Great music.” couldn’t agree more. I remember my brother playing Saria’s Song/Lost Woods theme on the piano, giving the full house a magical feeling =)

This list is pretty good and contains a lot of good video game music, but I feel you’ve omitted two of the greatest ever composed. No video game music list is complete without Mike Tyson’s Punchout’s “Eye for an Eye” and Bionic Commando’s original theme. These were NES classics!

Those will probably make it on a future list. It’s not a “top 10,” rather it’s just a list of ten greats. I did one other before this and I’m currently working on the (long overdue) third edition. I’ll think about adding them to that list. Thanks for the input.
