*Cue Sonic the Hedgehog 1-Up jingle*
Yes, Project Needlemouse, the new side-scrolling Sonic the Hedgehog title is, indeed, Sonic the Hedgehog 4!
Project Needlemou…. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will take place after the events of of Sonic and Knuckles. Whether this means it is rebooting all of the previous Sonic chronology that took place after that or if it is merely a prequel to them, but either way, it’s great to see a true sequel to the Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic titles.
As mentioned before, Sonic will be the only playable character this time around, to give the game more of a classic Sonic feel. And Dr. Robotnik is (finally) the primary antagonist again.
The game will be released episodically, with episode 1 being released this Summer.
Sonic 4 will be released as a downloadable title through Xbox Live, Playstation Network and WiiWare!
Finally, after sixteen years, Sonic & Knuckles will be getting a proper sequel. I am bouncing off of the walls from this news and I’ll be sure to post more news on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as I learn more about it!
I hope it has that classic “SEGA!” jingle!

Oh I hope it has that “SEGA!” jingle too! Even though you may hear it over and over, I can’t seem to get enough of it. Wait, so it’s been confirmed that Robotnik will be the primary antagonist again??

Judging by the current synopsis of the plot and the focus of the game I would say so.
