Yammie Awards: Movies (2009)

2009 had its fair share of bad movies, but it also brought us many great ones as well. Here are my awards for the best that movies had to offer in 2009 (Though keep in mind I am waiting to do the big “best film” award for its own post in a top ten countdown). Caution, some spoilers may follow. Read more

The Moldy Yams Awards (Dubious Movie Awards)

Sure we’re in late March now, so some might say I’m late into the best/worst of 2009 stuff by this point. But I don’t care, I’m going at my own pace. Plus I’ve been planning a few other things for this website and whatnot, which have made these big updates take a little longer. And besides, the Oscars themselves waited until March so why can’t I wait a little longer? Read more

Wrestlemania Predictions

With the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view looming forth this Sunday, I figured I would give my predictions on the matches and whatnot! Read more

Alice in Wonderland Review

A very merry Unbirthday to you!

A very merry Unbirthday to you!

Alice in Wonderland is the newest film by director Tim Burton. It is, of course, based on the book by Lewis Carroll. Alice in Wonderland has received an almost unparalleled amount of hype (I only add the word “almost” because Avatar was released just a few short months ago). But has director Tim Burton created the quintessential Alice in Wonderland film? Read more

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars Review

Even if you haven't heard of half of these guys, they are all-stars nonetheless.

Even if you haven't heard of half of these guys, they are all-stars nonetheless.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom serves as a revival to Capcom’s famed “versus” fighting games. Only this time, instead of the heroes (and villains) of the many games of Capcom doing battle against the likes of Marvel comics super heroes, they take on characters from the famous Japanese anime/manga company, Tatsunoko.

So do the two powerhouses compliment each other? Or is the combination more obscure than fun? Read more

Coraline Review

I would say this movie is as cute as a button... but there are so many reasons why I can't.

I would say this movie is as cute as a button... but there are so many reasons why I can't.

Coraline is a 2009 stop-motion animated film directed by Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas (Tim Burton was the creator of that film, but not director) and James and the Giant Peach.

But how does Coraline stack up with its predecessors? Read more

Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing (with Banjo-Kazooie) Review

*Note that this review is based on the Xbox 360 version of the game. If I get any of the other versions I will be sure to comment on the differences in the control schemes.*

Sonic and SEGA and racing! Oh my!

Sonic and SEGA and racing! Oh my!

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is, as its name suggests, a racing game starring some of the many mascots of SEGA. It is a go-kart game that, like countless others before it, tries to capitalize on the winning formula originally created in the Mario Kart series. But does Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing cross the finish line? Or does it have a few flat tires? Read more

The 2010 Wrestle Man Awards!

*Along with my Yammie Awards (coming soon), I figured this year I would also do some pro-wrestling awards! Keep in mind that this is pretty much just based on WWE wrestling, since I haven’t seen as many matches from Japanese or independent wrestling organizations as I would like to, I can’t honestly include them. Hopefully next time.* Read more

Happy Mario Day!

Today is the unofficial fan day of Super Mario!

That’s right, March 10th is Mario day (Mar.10, Mario, get it?)!

Why not celebrate by playing your favorite Mario games? Or you can try stomping on some Goombas, throwing some Koopa shells at your friends, riding a dinosaur, flying above the clouds, laying some siege on some airships, traversing space, cleaning goo riddled islands, and encasing your skin in some type of indestructible metal!

… Okay… So maybe playing the games is the more reasonable choice…

Happy Mario Day!

Ponyo: The Best Animated Feature That Wasn’t

Despite all of the crumby Summer blockbusters, 2009 was a good year for movies, but even more so, it was a great year for animated movies. Pixar gave us another classic with Up, Wes Anderson entered animation with Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Disney returned to the traditionally animated musicals that made them what they are.

It was such a great year for animation in fact, that for only the second time in history, the Best Animated Feature Oscar contains five nominees (as apposed to the usual three).

And yet, with five nominees for Best Animated Feature in one of the best years of animated features, there is one film that is tragically and shamefully absent from the Oscar race: Ponyo. Read more
