Wrestlemania Predictions

With the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view looming forth this Sunday, I figured I would give my predictions on the matches and whatnot!

The Miz & The Big Show (ShowMiz) VS. John Morrison & R-Truth for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship

Who I think will win: John Morrison & R-Truth.

Who I think should win: Doesn’t matter.

Honestly, I’m okay with either team winning this one. ShowMiz has proven to be a good and prominent tag team and they continue to bring prestige to the belts, and John Morrison and R-Truth have a good clash of styles and seem like they would make good tag champs. I’m guessing Morrison and Truth pull out the victory, since ShowMiz is kind of like JeriShow 2.0, I never saw them holding the titles as long as the Jericho/Big Show tandem. I could be wrong…

CM Punk VS. Rey Mysterio

Who I think will win: CM Punk.

Who I think should win: CM Punk.

So apparently if Rey Mysterio loses the match he will have to join Punk’s “Straight-Edge society” (how and why CM Punk has the power and authority to make such a stipulation is beyond me). With those circumstances, I’m sure most people would think Mysterio would end up with the victory. But I think CM Punk winning the match could set up some interesting storyline and keep the rivalry going. And I’m guessing a lot of the faces will be winning some of the bigger matches, so I’m guessing the heel takes this one.

Now watch Mysterio win….

Triple H VS. Sheamus

Who I think will win: Triple H.

Who I think should win: Sheamus.

Wait?! Triple H isn’t in one of the main events at Wrestlemania?! It’s the sign of the end times! 2012 is real!

*ahem*

Anyway, I’m guessing this will be a pretty quick match, with Triple H demolishing Sheamus and burying  his potential hopes of another main event push. Just like so many before him, I’m guessing Sheamus will be another stepping stone to make Triple H look even better.

Hopefully I’m wrong and there will at least be a fight involved.

Randy Orton VS. Cody Rhodes VS. Ted DiBiase (triple threat match)

Who I think will win: Randy Orton.

Who I think should win: Cody Rhodes or Ted DiBiase.

Why is Randy Orton the good guy in all of this? He was the maniacal leader of the “Legacy,” and Rhodes and DiBiase were the young upstarts who joined him to make a name for themselves. Wouldn’t this make more sense if either Rhodes or DiBiase were the face going into this match? With the way this rivalry is built it just seems to further Randy Orton’s career even more (even though he’s had such prominence in the company in recent years it is really unnecessary). Shouldn’t we want to root for one of the proteges who turned against their ruthless teacher?

Oh well!

Anyway, I’m guessing Orton gets the unnecessary win with this one. I’m thinking Rhodes and DiBiase work together for most of the match, but then both try to claim the victory for themselves, and amidst the quibbling Randy Orton takes advantage and gets the win.

But who knows, maybe I’ll be surprised and once Rhodes and DiBiase turn on each other (which I think is almost a guarantee) maybe one of them will actually take the victory for themselves.

But I doubt it…

Bret Hart VS. Vince McMahon (No Holds Barred Match)

Who I think will win: Bret Hart.

Who I think should win: Bret Hart.

The Bret Hart/Vince McMahon rivalry has got to be one of the most interesting rivalries in WWE’s history, due to that it is based on the actual events of the Montreal Incident of 1997, in which McMahon really (as in real life, not a storyline) robbed Bret Hart in his championship match against Shawn Michaels. Of course, we all know it became so infamous, that the WWE, the WWE fans and pretty much the whole professional wrestling world still can’t shut up about it. And the WWE (and other companies) have tried to recreate similar events in storylines.

And here we are, going on thirteen years later, and McMahon and Hart are finally having that long dreamed of grudge match.

The match is no holds barred, so I’m willing to bet it ends up similar to the Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon match at Wrestlemania 22 back in 2006, in which Michaels decimated Vince McMahon using and array of offense and a truckload of weapons.

Of course, Bret Hart isn’t in near as good of wrestling condition as Shawn Michaels (in fact, the beginning of this McMahon/Hart rivalry marked Bret’s first wrestling appearance since the Montreal Incident), so I’m not expecting Bret Hart to jump off a ladder and break McMahon through a table like Shawn Michaels did. But I still expect Hart to use many a chair/kendo stick/trash can/ring bell/sledge hammer against the maniacal chairman.

I also expect some interference on McMahon’s behalf of some kind, but whoever interferes will probably be rid-of by Bret Hart.

Yeah, I’m thinking McMahon gets his comeuppance.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match ( Christian VS. Dolph Ziggler VS. Kane VS. Shelton Benjamin VS. MVP VS. Matt Hardy VS. Jack Swagger VS. Evan Bourne VS. Drew McIntyre VS. Kofi Kingston)

Who I think will win: Drew McIntyre.

Who I think should win: Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin or Dolph Ziggler.

Woah snap! Ten wrestlers in this year’s Money in the Bank Ladder match?! Congratulations WWE for giving a lot of the younger talent a chance to shine at Wrestlemania in what’s sure to be one of the best matches on the show.

I expect a lot of high-flying moves, ladder spots, wrestling ability and a plethora of finishing maneuvers to be used in this match.

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match has consistently been one of my most anticipated matches at Wrestlemania since its introduction five years ago. And this is my most anticipated Money in the Bank match yet! Basically it’s a win/win/win/win/win/win/win/win/win/win situation. There are so many different outcomes, but none really to complain about.

I’m guessing Drew McIntyre gets the victory, due to his strong push in the company and the fact that storyline-wise he seems to be getting built up for it (they are trying to deceive us by making him suddenly lose a few matches. A sign that his luck will turn back around?)

But I would love to see Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger or Dolph Ziggler pull out the upset and meteorically rise to upper card status (I’m not getting my hopes up though), and I would love to see Shelton Benjamin finally pull out the Money in the Bank victory after four previous appearances in the match type.

But again, no real bad outcome.

John Cena VS. Batista for the WWE Championship

Who I think will win: Probably John Cena.

Who I think should win: Either one works, but I’ll say Batista.

The John Cena/Batista rivalry has built into something pretty intense, and it is yet another quality rivalry heading into this year’s Wrestlemania. Cena’s as charismatic as ever, and Batista is such a good heel that you wonder why they made him a face in the first place.

Since John Cena is in this match, I’m guessing this will be the main event (though I would prefer seeing Undertaker/Shawn Michaels or the world title bout take top billing).

Anyway, this one is kind of a coin toss, as I could see either man winning. Though I’m guessing since it’s Wrestlemania, chances are we’ll be seeing the good guy win I think. But who knows.

Chris Jericho VS Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship

Who I think will win: Probably Edge.

Who I think should win: Doesn’t matter, both are worthy.

This one is another toss-up. I think Edge is more likely to win, given that he just returned from a career threatening injury (didn’t they do this same thing with Triple H back in 2002?  Jericho was his opponent as well even). But at the same time, I wouldn’t exactly be shocked to see Jericho retain the title.

This is another great rivalry between two of the WWE’s greatest talents (both in the ring and on the mic), and it is bound to be a great match.

My only quibble with the feud is that the whole “Jericho fears the spear” thing seems to have taken priority over Jericho’s “we were tag champs, then Edge got injured while I continued to greatness without him because he was dead-weight” aspect of it. But oh well, small price to pay for what is sure to be a great match between two of WWE’s best wrestlers.

Undertaker VS. Shawn Michaels (Streak VS. career)

Who I think will win: Undertaker.

Who I think should win: Again, it doesn’t matter. These two are the icons of the WWE.

The Undertaker retires Shawn Michaels.

At least that’s what I think. I could be wrong. But it seems to be the outcome that makes more sense.

I mean, every long-time fan has always said Shawn Michaels’ opponent in his final match would most likely be Undertaker, as the are two sides of the same coin. And of course everyone knows Shawn Michaels’ last match would be at Wrestlemania. And in an interview a couple of years back, Jim Ross commented that he believed Shawn Michaels would retire around Wrestlemania 26, and here we are.

Plus, losing his last match against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania would seem like the perfect closure to Shawn Michaels’ unprecedented career (especially after their phenomenal match at last year’s event). Whereas The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak almost seems like it’s beyond the point of being broken. I mean, where do they go if the streak were to end? What do you do after that?

But I could be wrong, if anyone were to ever break the streak, it’s Shawn Michaels (again, the two sides of the same coin thing). And with the build-up for this sure to be fantastic epic bout, the outcome of the streak coming to an end seems more plausible than ever.

But still, I feel the smart money says to go with Undertaker. It just seems to make more sense. As depressing as the idea of a WWE without Shawn Michaels is, I do think this is the perfect setup for a grand finale in Shawn Michaels’ career.

But on the bright side, retired wrestlers still manage to show up a lot. And given Shawn Michaels’ status, I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a return in a year or two or something. Or at least makes appearances in subsequent Wrestlemania matches anyway.

So yeah, those are my Wrestlemania predictions.
