Yes, after a so much procrastinating, getting preoccupied with other things, and just finding different ways to stave it off, I have finally got around to making my list of best animated films of the first decade of the 2000s (2000 – 2009).

I know this is something that should have been done at the start of 2010, and well, I tried. But every time I started to get to this, I’d end up doing something else. And don’t even get me started on how difficult it was to pick which movies to list and, even harder, where to list them.

Speaking of which, I don’t want to hear any yammer about why I placed one movie above another, why one movie is too low, ect., ect. This is my list, and as hard as it was to make I decided to base a lot of it on certain categories. For example.

• The quality of the movies of course came first, but unlike most people, I don’t simply see quality as meaning pretentious artsyness. Some movies here are primarily just about good fun and good humor. So if a certain movie or two aren’t artsy enough for you. Deal with it.
• The rewatchability of the movies also played a role. So a movie I’m opt to watch over and over again would of course be placed higher than movies I would watch maybe every here and there.
• And of course, how much I personally enjoy the movies takes precedent. So just because one movie is popular doesn’t mean I’m going to place it at the top of my list.

With that being said though, I admit myself that I had an immensely difficult time numbering this list, and I hope people can just accept and enjoy the fact that every movie on the list is great, so don’t always think about the numbering first. And frankly, if I ever do any other lists involving the same movies, but with an inconsistent ordering, don’t give me a hard time about it. Again, I like all the movies here, and it was hard to number them, if one day they are numbered differently elsewhere it’s because that’s how I feel at the time.

Also, let me tell you how this list will work.

• Over the next few days, I will be posting the list in segments. There will be 25 movies total and I will post five at a time, counting down from 25 to 1.
• For each movie, I will list the year of its release. For foreign movies that were released on separate calender years, I will list the year they came out in their home country as well as their US release.
• Also, to further break the stereotype that animated films are solely for small children, I will list each movies MPAA rating. Some are G, some PG, and yes, there are some PG-13s and at least one R.
• Also also, I will acknowledge people who are so often overlooked, animation directors. I will list the director of every movie on the list.
• And for the sake of fun, I will also add a little “fun fact” about each movie.

And well, that’s it. I hope you enjoy my coming list of best animated films of 2000 to 2009. And in case you’re wondering why I didn’t just throw in 2010 movies…well, it took me so long to make the list, and number everything, I really didn’t want to have to alter it again. 2010 movies will have to wait for my impeding Yammy awards and future lists.
