2009 will be an excellent year for Nintendo. the big N recently revealed the Nintendo DSi (the latest iteration of Nintendo’s uber popular Nintendo DS console and the latest thing to include a lowercase “i” in the title). The innevitable blockbuster handheld will include several new features like duel cameras, bigger screens, an SD card slot, and a built-in flash memory for downloading original “DSi” games. There are rumors going around that Satoru Iwata (president of Nintendo in case you didn’t know) may announce the successor (or expansion) to Nintendo’s emensely popular Nintendo DS handheld console tommorrow. Rumors also say it will include a camera and music player! Let’s hope it’s all true.

It has finally happened..

Super Mario RPG has finally arrived on the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console!

After months and months of waiting, I can finally play one of my all time favorite video games once again on my Wii. Nintendo re-released SMRPG as the special 250th game on the North American Virtual Console, and they couldn’t have chosen a better game for it. It also happens to be the first Super Nintendo game added to the Virtual Console in nearly six months! Super Mario RPG is available to download for 900 Wii points and is rated “E” for everyone.

Portal is a first person puzzle/shooter and, like Team Fortress 2, is one of the five games included in The Orange Box. Portal is easily the most original and interesting of the bunch, as well as being one of the most innovative and genuinely fun games of the past couple of years. Read more

Homestar runner, Strong Bad and the rest of the characters of Homestarrunner.com have been a cult icon since the website launched in 2000, and through all the obscure video game references fans wondered if/when the Homestar runner crew would get a “proper” video game of their own. Our pleas have finally been answered by Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People ( or SBCG4AP for short), a five part, point-and-click adventure starring everyone’s favorite email answering, wrestling mask faced cool guy, Strong Bad! I recently received the Nintendo Power 20th anniversary issue! I think it’s probably the best issue in a while. They have a good interview with Keiji Inafune (the creator of Mega Man) about the epic Mega man 9 and a review for Final Fantasy IV for the DS (of course who in the world reads a console specific magazine for the reviews). The best part of the issue (since I already know about Megaman 9) is the “Best of the Best” section which is a list of the 20 best games for every Nintendo console. Here’s how said lists ended up. I love old games. Old games were fun. There were so many timeless classics back then, it seems like today people just give a game good graphics and rush it out the door. Nintendo recently revealed the release dates of four upcoming 2008 games.

Mario Super Sluggers will be released August 25th. Its another Mario sports game.

Mystery Case Files: Millionheir will be released September 8th. Its a kind of detective game for the DS.

Wario Land: Shake It! will be released for the Wii on September 29th. It’s a old school style side-scroller complete with hand drawn graphics.

Kirby Super Star Ultra will also be released September 29th. It is a DS remake of my favorite Kirby game…Kirby Super Star!! It will include all the old games included in the original Kirby Super Star along with some new ones.

Thats some really good news for me, but we’ll have to wait for E3 before Nintendo releases any information on any more titles.

Zack and Wiki is a great game. Just ask the Twelve people who played it. It’s a game that both uses the Wii remote in the best ways possible and shows that third-party companies can indeed make a great Wii game. Read more
