2010 saw many, many great video games (though it also had its share of disappointments). In fact, its gaming output furthered how awesome of a year in entertainment 2010 was (there were a lot of great movies as well, as well as the Bed Intruder Song). 2010 proved to be a standout year in interactive entertainment, and provided some of the very best games of the current console generation.
Keep in mind I can’t play every major game released (they can get really long!), so some fan-favorites might not appear here, but I hope to experience them when I get the chance. But Bayonetta isn’t here because I didn’t like it.

My Yammie Awards continue with the best in gaming of 2010! Yes, it’s probably past award season by now, but I don’t care. 2010 was a great year for the Wii, with the like of Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby (among others) proving that the Wii is still fully capable of delivering AAA experiences. Some people feared that, with the 3DS on the horizon, that’s where all of Nintendo’s focus would be, and the Wii would be left in the cold.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is a classic-style arcade rail shooter for the Nintendo Wii, and serves as a sequel to the N64 title, Sin & Punishment, which was only released in Japan until it popped up on the Wii Virtual Console. But does Sin & Punishment 2 prove to be a sequel worthy of bringing the series to the western masses? Or should the series have stayed on the Virtual Console? Read more
Metroid: Other M is the newest installment of Nintendo’s legendary Metroid franchise. After the 2D days, the Metroid series laid dormant for several years before Retro Studios brought us the now legendary-on-their-own Metroid Prime trilogy. Other M is the product of a collaboration between Nintendo and Team Ninja that looks to bring a more cinematic approach to the series. But do the new development team and cinematic scope revitalize the series once again? Or do the changes have us missing the good ol’ boys at Retro? Read more
Kirby’s Epic Yarn is the latest installment in Nintendo’s long-running Kirby franchise, a series which I think has proven to be incredibly consistent and innovative. Doesn’t the title of this say it all? Do I really have to go on? What? I do?! Okay then.
The fourth entry in the immensely popular Donkey Kong Country series, which had all three of its previous entries on the SNES back in the 90s, will be released in one week.
Yes, Donkey Kong Country Returns (or DKCR) will hit North American store shelves on November 21st, 16 years to the day of the release of the original Donkey Kong Country.
If you own a Wii (who doesn’t?), be sure to buy this sure to be great game ASAP. If by some chance you don’t own a Wii, buy one and get Donkey Kong Country Returns!
