"Go green!"

Green Lantern is the latest superhero film to be hitting theaters this summer (and Captain America is still on the way), and is based on one of DC’s most iconic characters. But does Green Lantern live up to its legacy? Or is the sheer amount of 2011 superhero movies beginning to show? Read more

X-Men: First Class Review

"Class is in session, bub!"

X-Men: First Class is the fifth film in Marvel’s popular X-Men series, and serves as a prequel (or is it a reboot?) to the series by telling the origin stories of Professor X and Magneto. But does First Class serve as a welcomed revival of the series that jump-started the superhero genre? Or should the X-Men get back to class? Read more

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Review

"Jack is back!"

On Stranger Tides is the fourth film in Disney’s wildly successful Pirates of the Caribbean series, and looks to breathe some new life into the franchise by taking the iconic Jack Sparrow (again portrayed by Johnny Depp) on an adventure that strays away from many of the characters and locales from the previous films. But does On Stranger Tides strike gold? Or is Jack Sparrow lost at sea? Read more

The Adjustment Bureau Review

"In the land of Mordor, where the shadows lie."

The Adjustment Bureau is a film directed by George Nolfi (who previously wrote Oceans Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum) and stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.  The film is, in a sense, a science-fiction thriller, though it’s probably equal parts romantic drama. But in this post-Inception age of movies, does the Adjustment Bureau actually prove to be a standout? Or is just another would-be contender? Read more

My Top 10 Movies of 2010 (Golden Yammie)

2010 proved to be another memorable year in movies for me. It seems the whole 2007-2010 timeframe served up a good number of films that rank amongst my personal favorites for that matter. But 2010 on its own was a standout year. There were a lot of good movies released in 2010, but only a few could rise above and beyond the competition to call themselves “the best movies of 2010.” The following are the films that most stood out for me.

And expect this list to be a bit more… colorful than you might be used to. Read more

Yammie Awards: Movies (2010)

It’s that time of year again, award season! It seems everyone and everything has some kind of awards for one thing or another, and it only makes sense (I guess) that I do so as well! Sure, I might be a little late at this (most people hop to this as soon as January starts), but a lot of thought (and procrastination) went into this. Keep in mind that this particular blog contains awards such as “Best Visuals” and “Best Music,” but I will be doing a the “best Movie” award as a separate top 10 post, and my video game awards will closely follow.

Be warned, some spoilers may (or may not) follow.

So without further ado, here are my Yammy awards for the movies of 2010! Read more

Rango Review

"Rango takes his goldfish crackers very seriously."

Rango is an animated film starring Johny Depp and directed by Gore Verbinski (who is probably most well known for directing the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films). The movie is the first animated film created by Industrial Lights and Magic (who you may know for their countless contributions to visual effects in live-action films) and is distributed by Nickelodeon. But is Rango something special in the world of animation? Or does its uniqueness go no further than the big names? Read more

The Green Hornet Review

"Remember, we parked in the bright, white abyss."

The Green Hornet is a super hero/action comedy film based on the license of the same name.  The movie star Seth Rogen (who also did a good chunk of backstage work on the film). But does The Green Hornet proves to be a humorous, action-filled romp? Or does it just sting? Read more

Tangled Review

"I whip my hair back and forth!"

Tangled is the 50th animated motion picture by Walt Disney Studios, and with such a distinction it has a lot to live up to. But does Tangled live up to the Disney Legacy? Or is it just too tangled for its own good (sorry)? Read more
