Megamind Review

"He's blue da ba dee da ba die!"

Megamind is the newest film from Dreamworks animation studios (and the third this year following How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever After). I have sometimes been critical of Dreamworks’ animation output, but they have also proven they can pull out some quality animated features. So is Megamind one of Dreamworks’ more forgettable animated offerings? Or does it prove to be something super? Read more

RED Review

"Blue."

RED is an action comedy with heavy star power, which includes Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, among others. But does the star power make RED more than just your basic action film? Read more

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Review

Super Scott Pilgrim RPG: Legend of the Seven Evil Exes.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a film based on the cult-hit Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series. The graphic novels are abundant in video game cameos and esoteric references. The movie stays true to the comics and pulls out many of the same tricks, but do these references and cameos transition well to the big screen? Read more

The Other Guys Review

The Other guys is a buddy comedy/cop film starring Will Farrel and Mark Wahlberg as “the other guys.” Read more

Toy Story 3 Review

The toys are back in town.

Toy Story 3 is the third installment in the series that made Pixar what it is today, Toy Story. The previous two Toy Storys are amongst my favorite films of all time. Does Toy Story 3 live up to its perfect predecessors? Or does it suffer the curse of the threequels? Read more

Shrek Forever After/The Final Chapter Review

No, that's not the Heat Miser.

Ever since the original film’s release in 2001, Shrek has become the poster boy for Dreamworks animated features. The series has seen a sequel hit theaters every three years, with the good-but-not-as-great-as-the-original Shrek 2 in 2004 and the disappointing and mediocre Shrek the Third in 2007. Now we have Shrek Forever After, or as it is now apparently named, The Final Chapter. It is said to be the final film of the Shrek series (not counting the upcoming Puss in Boots spinoff), but where does it fall in the Shrek pantheon? Does it recapture the charm and humor of the first and second entries, or does it fall in the same category as Shrek’s third outing? Read more

Date Night Review

I can't think of a funny caption, so just pay attention to Steve Carell, he's a funny guy.

Alice in Wonderland Review

A very merry Unbirthday to you!

A very merry Unbirthday to you!

Alice in Wonderland is the newest film by director Tim Burton. It is, of course, based on the book by Lewis Carroll. Alice in Wonderland has received an almost unparalleled amount of hype (I only add the word “almost” because Avatar was released just a few short months ago). But has director Tim Burton created the quintessential Alice in Wonderland film? Read more

Fantastic Mr. Fox Review

The real Animal House.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a 2009 stop-motion animated film directed by Wes Anderson, who is known for directing such live-action films as The Royal Tenenbaums. Fantastic Mr. Fox is Wes Anderson’s first forray into animated cinema, but how well does Wes Anderson transition into the medium? Read more

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Review

Imagine that.

Imagine that.

The Imaginarium of Doctor  Parnassus is a film by Terry Gilliam, who is probably most famous for his work on Monty Python (particularly, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, one of the funniest films ever made). The film stars the late Heath Ledger in his last major film role, and Christopher Plummer. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a film about the power of the imagination, but does the film have the power to captivate the imagination?
